100% Naturally Sourced Components
Our FireFence product uses Burnblock® technology, made from substances found in nature and in the human body in elemental form.

No. 01What is FireFence?

A fire retardant made entirely from natural substances.
FireFence uses Burnblock® technology — a highly effective, non-toxic fire retardant produced from natural ingredients. It blocks oxygen from reaching the wood cells, preventing ignition. When properly applied, it leaves no stain and primes the substrate for further finishing. Treated surfaces carbonize and release water under heat, slowing the spread of fire.
Meets international fire-resistance standards EN 13501-1:2007, EN 14135 and EN 45545:2015 R1 & R10. Combined with Novawood Thermo-D, treated wood reaches Euroclass B-s1,d0 — the highest reaction-to-fire rating for combustible building products.
No. 02Core properties
Our FireFence product uses Burnblock® technology, made from substances found in nature and in the human body in elemental form.
Our FireFence product uses Burnblock® technology, which decomposes naturally and is 100% biodegradable. It breaks down with no adverse impact on the environment, offering a safe and sustainable fire protection solution.
None (0%) of the substances in Burnblock® appear on the list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC).
The pH of standard Burnblock® falls within the range considered neutral. It is compatible with most adhesives and surface coating systems.
Testing has shown that Burnblock® has no adverse effect on metals.
Produces no measurable VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions.
No. 03Certifications & standards
Burnblock® has been extensively tested and certified. Full certificates and fire test reports are available on request — by authorized trademark holders only.

No. 04Where it's used
Burnblock® penetrates and protects a wide range of substrates — from solid timber through engineered panels to coatings and natural fibers.
A water-based, non-toxic fire-retardant impregnation technology that is easily applied to different wood products and production processes.
Plywood treated with Burnblock® can reach the B-s1,d0 reaction-to-fire class and be used safely in construction, transport, education, healthcare and commercial projects.
The Burnblock® impregnation process lets MDF boards reach B-s1,d0 fire performance while preserving their workability and dimensional stability.
Independent tests have shown that Thermowood products impregnated with Burnblock® achieve at least the B-s2,d0 fire class, even when painted.
Solutions developed for natural fiber-based building materials, offering safe use in boards, insulation and acoustic products.
Burnblock® provides support in solution development, test planning, documentation and regulatory compliance for specialized fire tests.
No. 05How it works
How does the fire safety technology work?
Burnblock® works by blocking oxygen from reaching the treated material — the essential element fire needs to form. The treatment is invisible, leaves no stain, oil or trace, and remains compatible with most wood, paper and textile finishes.
Once absorbed, Burnblock® allows the substrate to carbonize and release water when exposed to heat — absorbing part of the thermal load and slowing flame propagation. The result: effective protection against ignition and flame spread.

No. 06Sustainability

Cradle to Cradle. A circular design approach.
Developed in line with the principles of material health, safety, environmental responsibility and circular design, Burnblock® proves its sustainability performance through Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification.
This approach supports the goal of delivering a safe, responsible and sustainable solution to suppliers, customers and end users.
No. 07Durability
Fire Performance in Harsh Weather Conditions.
FireFence passes the hygroscopic tests carried out per EN 16755:2017 FIR DRF classes INT2 and EXT requirements, proving its suitability for both interior and exterior applications. Treated wood products retain their fire performance after accelerated aging tests.
This performance makes FireFence a reliable fire protection technology for long-lasting exterior solutions such as facade claddings, sunshades, decking applications and urban furniture.

No. 08FireFence in projects
Our B-s1,d0 class fire-resistant timber applications deliver reliable solutions across diverse architectural projects with Burnblock® technology.
